TURE
Robert L. Watkins, III, a name now synonymous with success in the realm of mental health, has overcome a series of challenges that have shaped him into the inspiring individual he is today. Born in Dallas, Texas, on August 13, 1968, Robert grew up in a middle-class family where the principles of hard work and determination were instilled in him early. Though he was the only child to Priscilla and Robert L. Watkins, Jr., Robert’s bond with his family was rich with love and unwavering support. His father’s legacy as a hard-working man and his mother’s nurturing spirit were his foundation, both serving as guiding lights as he navigated life's obstacles.
A vivid memory from his childhood, one that stands out to Robert, is the day he received his first car—a 1976 Nissan 280Z. That moment was more than just a rite of passage; it was a symbol of independence and the start of Robert’s journey toward self-reliance. It was a formative experience that marked the transition from childhood dreams to the beginnings of adult ambition. His time spent in Dallas was not just about learning lessons from the world around him, but also about learning to challenge himself, to push boundaries, and to dare to dream big.
Robert’s educational journey took him far beyond the familiar streets of Dallas. After graduating from Morehouse College with a degree in Political Science, he set his sights on a career in pharmacy. He attended Texas Southern University for two years and later spent a semester in the School of Pharmacy. But it was during this time that Robert’s path took a dramatic turn. Realizing that his calling was not in pharmacy, he made the bold decision to pivot and pursue medicine instead—a choice that led him to the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, where he eventually earned his medical degree in affiliation with New York Medical College.
The next chapter in Robert’s life was not without its trials. Enrolled in a medical program that required him to learn complex medical terminology in a language he wasn’t initially fluent in, Robert’s journey became a test of both intellectual and emotional resilience. By the time he entered his third year of medical school, classes were being taught in Spanish. While his peers seemed to navigate the challenges with relative ease, Robert was forced to embrace the grind of daily study sessions that often stretched late into the night. Many questioned his decision to study medicine in a foreign language, but Robert’s unwavering belief in God's plan for him fueled his persistence.
The transformation from confusion to clarity was not immediate. Robert grappled with understanding medical jargon and struggled to keep pace with his peers. But it was through sheer perseverance, and a refusal to be defeated, that he eventually found his rhythm. His ability to communicate with patients in Spanish, initially a daunting task, soon became a testament to his growth—not just as a doctor, but as a compassionate, culturally aware physician. With each challenge, Robert's confidence bloomed, and he emerged stronger, prepared for whatever came next.

Push limits and Embrace the grind. Strength through adversity and Growth through challenge.
Today, as the CEO and owner of Mental Health First PLLC, Robert specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents. His practice is a direct reflection of his commitment to improving the lives of others. Whether it’s addressing the mental health crisis in his community or working with children diagnosed with autism, Robert’s impact on the world around him cannot be overstated. His work at Easter Seals Child Development Center in Daytona Beach exemplifies his dedication to service, helping children navigate their unique challenges with the support they need to thrive.
However, Robert’s greatest achievement is not his career success, but rather his role as a devoted Christian, husband, father, son, and friend. With his wife and two children, Robert’s commitment to family remains the cornerstone of his life. His pursuit of generational wealth is not driven by materialism, but by a deep desire to provide for his family and create a legacy of love, integrity, and service. His personal values—faith, humility, compassion, and integrity—are not just principles he espouses, but values that inform every aspect of his life and work.
Robert's journey has not been without its share of hardships. But it is through the adversities that he has emerged as a leader in both his field and his community. His ability to push limits, embrace the grind, and find strength through challenge are the qualities that define his success. As a man of faith, he often draws inspiration from his favorite motto, "Let your haters be your elevators," a reminder that obstacles are not roadblocks but opportunities for growth and elevation.
A man of many talents, Robert’s interests extend beyond his work as a physician. A former baseball player at Morehouse College, Robert ranked in the top 10 nationally for stolen bases and even tried out for the Texas Rangers Triple-A team. He enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, indulging in activities like fishing, boating, and riding rollercoasters. Whether it’s Formula 1 racing or house music, Robert finds joy in the things that allow him to unwind and reconnect with himself.
Through it all, Robert L. Watkins, III’s story is one of determination, resilience, and a commitment to service. From a young man in Dallas, Texas, to a respected physician and business owner, Robert has carved a path defined not by the challenges he’s faced, but by the strength he’s found within himself to overcome them. His life is a testament to the power of faith, family, and an unyielding commitment to making the world a better place for those who need it most.
